An All or Something Fitness Routine

Does progress count if it’s not “perfect?”

Have you ever felt like the progress you're making doesn't count unless it's “perfect?” Maybe you've thought…

“I worked out 3x this week but my goal was 5, so the week is a bust and now I feel guilty.”

“I started the day with a donut, so I have to eat a salad for lunch to counteract it.”

“I won't count my push ups since I haven't done one off of my knees.”

This all or nothing mindset is common and it's HARD to push against, especially when we're talking about health and fitness.

It makes sense that when we set goals for ourselves, we want perfection. Ironically though having an all or nothing mindset may actually be what's keeping us from reaching our goals.

In thinking this way, we're essentially shutting down our positive thinking and taking our focus away from…

The consistency of our actions: Working out 3x per week is better than nothing.

Giving ourselves grace: Enjoying a donut and knowing it won't derail the day.

Our progress: Realizing that two months ago, you couldn't do a single push up on your knees, but now you can do 5.

Embracing an all or something mentality, not only keeps it positive, it keeps the focus on the things you can do (or are already doing) to stay aligned with your goals, even when life gets in the way.

What's a small “something” that you can focus on this week?

Need help setting goals or locking in a consistent routine for yourself?
